Inspired by the historic collaboration between Frank Sinatra and Antonio Carlos Jobim in the 1960’s, this concert features award-winning Brazilian-Cuban opera singer Angelica de la Riva and critically acclaimed American jazz singer Hilary Gardner, singing an iconic collection of classic Jobim favorites, including “The Girl form Ipanema,” “How Insensitive,” and “Meditation,” among others. Highlighting the intrinsic simpatico between jazz and Brazilian music, several Great American Songbook standards find their place amidst Jobim’s compositions, including Irving Berlin's "Change Partners,” Cole Porter's "I Concentrate on You,” and the playful ode to glittering finery, "Baubles, Bangles, and Beads.”
With their sparkling voices and unique musical personalities, de la Riva and Gardner complement one another and breathe new life into the irresistible and unforgettable art form of bossa nova. For this tribute to Sinatra and Jobim, Angelica and Hilary will be joined by an outstanding quintet of legendary New York based musicians including Grammy Award-nominee Manuel Valera on the piano.
